London to Edinburgh - a mixture of seasons

We took the train from Kings Cross to Edinburgh, arriving at 3.15. The sky slowly became greyer and greyer the further north we travelled. The train was very comfortable and punctual, arriving on time at Edinburgh Waverley. It was pouring when we arrived and quite cold! We got a taxi and arrived at the hotel around 4.00pm.

We met the rest of the group (a completely full coach....mostly Americans - need I say more)! We set off for our 'welcome' dinner at 5.30. The dinner was at the mansion house of the Edinburgh Zoo. It was gorgeous! It was still absolutely bucketing down but the setting was amazing.

We got back to the hotel around 9.30 and retired to our rooms. The weather in London is improving so much, we can only hope that Edinburgh improves, too.

On Tuesday morning we went on a tour of Edinburgh Castle, a fabulous place. The weather was still cool but the sun was shining and everything seemed much finer and brighter.

When we had finished exploring Edinburgh Castle we went back to the hotel briefly and then went to the station to catch the train to North Berwick so we could visit the Scottish Seabird Centre. We were hoping to see some puffins. The Seabird Centre has cameras set up on four islands close to North Berwick. They show the continual seabird activity on the islands. The viewer in the centre can move the cameras around to get the best view of the birds. We saw the puffins, albeit remotely. It was great.

As we were leaving to walk to the station to catch the train back to Edinburgh we watched some children swimming and playing in the FREEZING sea!! They appeared to be enjoying themselves!

When we got back to Edinburgh we walked slowly back to the hotel. We passed a variety of interesting sights.

All in all a lovely day.
